Blog Post: Who Are You?

4-28-09...My name is Jim Vogel. I am the Recruiting Director with VTR Consulting LLC in Apex, NC. That is who I am. And I know who you are too. If you are in my avenue of job opportunity, I already have Googled, Twittered, Facebooked, and Linkedin you. I know how many friends you have on Facebook. I know if you were on the fencing team in high school. I have done my homework on you. I have even talked to the people in Career Services where you attended college. In the most positive of ways I want to know you outside of your resume.

So again, who are you? I gather information beyond what you give me. Having your resume is nice. No type-o's in your cover letter, great. And hopefully the interview goes well. But the best recruiters already know you through other people and the things you do or did.

Everything in the webosphere is PERMANENT. GOOD, BAD, and UGLY. So make sure your "stuff" is public and positive. Please remember this... Never forget it.

It is not who you know. It is not what you know. It is WHO KNOWS YOU.

As you progress with your career search make sure all of your activities FOCUS on career search. It is a full-time array of activity. Be relentless in all of your opportunities. Make the most of a phone conversation or an e-mail. And when you get the interview, role play like you are going to your best friend's wedding. You arrive sharp, rested, and smiling like crazy. Oh yeah, please be on time. Recruiters like that.
