Blog Post: Enie, Meanie, Miney, MORE

posted Tuesday, May 5, 2009 1:20 PM

5-5-09 Apex, NC... Recruits outnumber jobs right now. Add people who been displaced in recent months and college graduates hunting jobs based on their degrees and you have a lot of competition.

Organizations get to pick now more than ever. Thus "enie, meanie, miney more; I do not want you, so there's the door." Candidate reality is often tough to swallow. So be realistic.

Here are some hints from the inside to help you get inside.

1. Don't be fussy. A good job is sometime better than no job.

2. Your resume and cover letter must be BULLETS. Anything less than perfect is in the "hold for a year" circular file.

3. Practice a mock interview with a professional. You will learn valuable strategies to improve your interview skills.

4. Do not fib about your background or credentials. We will know.

5. Do your homework about the company you are interviewing with; and ask questions like you actually know what the company is about.

6. Do not bring up money or wages. The first interview's focus is never that.

7. Smile. Be energetic. And most importantly be articulate.

8. ASK FOR THE POSITION! 90% of candidates simply do not ask. Ask and you shall receive.

9. If you are late you are toast. Get to the appointment 10 minutes early, announce yourself, be patient, and take a seat.

10. Dress for success; NOT business casual!

Good luck!!
