Position Description
The Assistant Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Human Resources Department and transforming the delivery of human resources from transactional to consultative in alignment with the PDC’s business objectives. 

The Assistant Director will demonstrate and model a strong commitment to building a high performing, effective team while fostering a culture of customer service, innovation, and quality services for the organization.

Job Duties
1. Provide a proactive, practical and valued HR perspective in partnering with leadership on the application, interpretation and implementation of Human Resources policies and practices. Meet regularly with PDC department administrators and leadership regarding HR needs and opportunities to improve the provision of services.
2. Identify, anticipate, and respond appropriately to human resource needs across the organization including recruitment, employee relations, compliance/regulatory requirements, leaves of absence, orientation, and performance management. Maintain current knowledge in these areas as well as internal policies and procedures necessary to provide accurate and appropriate support.
3. Cultivate a positive work environment that upholds Duke’s values. Model leadership behaviors and expectations. Lead HR team members effectively to achieve departmental and organizational. Develop HR team members to be poised for consulting and advising.
4. Act as a key change agent to assist in the transformation of the HR operation to align HR services more closely with the needs and strategic goals of the PDC. Understand the business and partner with peers and colleagues to find creative solutions to complex human resources matters.
5. Promote an environment of continual improvement within human resources team, ensuring fulfillment of its mission of quality, timely execution by providing objective perspective on progress, priorities and directions while managing expectations.
6. Perform other duties as assigned

Education Requirements/Preferences
Work generally requires skills, knowledge, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field.

Experience Requirements/Preferences
Minimum five years of experience in Human Resources required, sufficient to demonstrate expertise in:
• Strategic Human Resources planning
• Human Resources program development
• Analytical, project management and organizational skills

Minimum 2 years of leadership experience preferred

Licensure/Certification Requirements
PHR, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or SHRM-SCP preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong leadership skills and ability to lead up, across and down
• Effective communicator, with strong professional and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously, with organization and accuracy
• Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Working Conditions
Must be able to work under time pressures in a busy office environment, be present on site during standard business hours and work outside standard hours according to business need.
Must participate in group activities requiring interpersonal skills & cooperation and must be able to react quickly and respond immediately to emergencies.
Must be able to handle multiple assignments, conflicting demands & priorities and maintain attention to detail over extended period of time.
Must be continually aware of variations in changing situations and be able to move throughout office environment throughout day.
Must be able to lift, push/pull and carry 10 lbs and must be able to reach for objects by extending arms.
