Be a leader in a Perioperative Nursing with Duke University Health System. DUHS’s immediate opening for Assistant VP, DUHS Perioperative Nursing is a once in a career opportunity. This role has oversight for perioperative nursing services at our three hospitals, Davis Ambulatory Surgery Center and a unique opportunity to come in on the ground floor to help build and grow our ambulatory surgery service line in and around the Triangle area.  Your leadership will help to deliver exceptional care to our patients, community and to grow with Duke Perioperative Nursing Services. 

The ideal candidate has the ability to lead effectively in a matrixed organization requiring high levels of collaboration, sound judgment, and significant operational and practice management expertise.  Plus, as a leader, you are expected to demonstrate a high level of responsibility, ethical practice, sensitivity to a diverse patient population, adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, and have knowledge of:

  • Physician practice management
  • Clinical operational issues
  • Research practice that contribute to effective and efficient care structures and processes
  • Health care payment systems
  • Sound financial management practices
  • Relevant legislation and regulation
As the Assistant VP, Perioperative Nursing, you will be responsible for:

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
  • Graduation from an accredited Master’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) required. Doctorate in Nursing preferred.
  • Seven years of progressive nursing leadership experience including at least 5 years of experience at the leadership level, preferably in the area of assignment required.
  • Previous experience leading Ambulatory Surgical Services strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a matrixed organization requiring high levels of collaboration, sound judgment and significant operational and practice management expertise required.
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:
  • Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina.
  • Nurses hired into leadership positions must obtain a leadership certification within three months of hire. New nurse leaders who are ineligible to sit for an exam because they have not been working in a leadership role for the minimum amount of time required must complete their certification within three months of becoming eligible.
