General Description

Associate Compliance Officer - The Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC), PLLC is seeking an innovative and independently driven leader looking to take on the challenge of the Associate Compliance Officer position. The Associate Compliance Officer works directly with the PDC Chief Compliance/Privacy Officer, and the rest of the Duke Health community in helping build, monitor and educate on compliant coding and billing practices.  Provides education and guidance on documentation and its importance in both the clinical care and billing practices.   Working in collaboration w/ our Physician and Administrative Leadership teams, the Associate Compliance Officer will empower PDC Physicians, Advanced Practice providers and other staff to understand the core elements of Coding and Billing regulations and its impact on compliant billing practices across the PDC.
 
The PDC is the independent, multi-specialty physician practice of Duke Health and is focused on providing the highest quality services to its 1,700+ physician members and their patients. Founded in 1931, the PDC is one of the first and largest faculty practices in the United States and recently celebrated 85 years of healthcare excellence.

Job Duties
1. Provide strategic planning and direction for the Compliance portion of department in accordance with the vision, values and expectations of the Private Diagnostic Clinics.  Promote and model a compliant coding and billing practices and the provision of education and support within the PDC, as well as with external clients and customers. 
2. Maintain liaison with all levels of administration, physicians and other PDC/Duke Health business partners to coordinate projects/business and accomplish directives. Ensure the department is integrated with other departmental areas within the PDC/Duke Health in regard to compliance related issues. Work closely with PDC, PRMO, DUHS Compliance and other Duke Health leaders and staff to ensure that the PDC’s compliance program and oversight are aligned with industry standards and included PDC specific needs.
3. Support PDC’s efforts to maintain compliance with coding, billing and other regulatory standards. Monitor compliance through formal and informal processes. Recognize opportunities for improving compliance through OIG and PDC Work plan, provider reviews, Epic system architecture and other recognized risks.   Design and implement strategies for enhancing compliance.  Conduct investigations and monitoring related identified issues.  This work includes responding timely to incidents and inquiries received, documenting the work and actions taken, and tracking investigations and inquiries, including any refunds as identified.
4. Serve as an expert resource on Coding, Billing and Compliance related activity as it relates to organizational role.  Ensures compliance-related education is created, maintained, and provided to all appropriate professionals, management, and others in a timely manner so that they are knowledgeable of and comply with pertinent coding guidance and regulations.  This includes:
a. Attestations and action codes
b. Evaluation and Management (E/M) Coding
c. Other Provider-based Coding
d. Documentation and associated Maestro Care functions
5. Supervise and coordinate work of designated employees on the Compliance team (10 FTE’. Direct and coordinate various personnel functions including, but not limited to: hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Develop and mentor direct reports and staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Compliance, Health System and / or Revenue Cycle leadership experience
• Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of leadership and staff.
• To actively lead major projects and initiatives, while also leading change in a dynamic matrixed environment
• Knowledge and experience in Project Management and Epic EHR
• Knowledge and experience in working with Professional Coding and Billing regulations, coding / compliance certification highly preferred.

Education Requirements/Preferences
Bachelor's degree in business or related field is required.

Experience Requirements/Preferences
Healthcare business and operations management experience (personnel, projects or consulting) greater than 5 years preferred. EPIC experience highly preferred.  Project management experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements/Preferences
Coding Experience/certification highly preferred

Working Conditions
Must be able to work under time pressures in a busy clinic/office environment.
