Job Description

Overview of Responsibilities:

The Student Intern position is a short-term temporary position. The intern works closely with the MIDP team on programs and projects for MIDP administration and student services as well as special events and projects. Overview of DCID: The Duke Center of International Development (DCID) has focused on issues of sustainable development since its inception in 1985 as a research and training facility in the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University. The activities of DCID include the research of its faculty members across five departments and schools in issues of sustainable development, the training of mid-career fellows in the Master of International Development Policy (MIDP), and the management of short-term executive training.

Work Performed
A detailed description of functional areas and tasks follows:

MIDP Program Assistant:
1. Assist with new student orientation and questions
2. Assist with arrival services
3. Assist with the Summer Academic Institute
4. Assist with Professional Development services
5. Assist with processing receipts and filing documents
6. Maintain lists and spreadsheets (Master’s Project, alumni updates, program statistics, etc) 7. Organize event and office supplies
8. Assist with events such as booking rooms, setting up rooms, etc.
9. Assist with other administrative duties as needed

In addition the successful candidate will possess the following qualities/attributes:
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Interest in issues related to international education and international development
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic HTML editing very helpful
• Interest and/or ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds on a daily basis
• Ability to lift 30 lbs or more
