Research Technician II Position supporting research on Influenza Virus Pathogenesis
The Heaton Laboratory has an opening for a Technician at the Duke University School of Medicine.
We are seeking a motivated person to assist with projects defining how influenza viruses alter the physiology of infected cells and how those changes affect the ability of the lung epithelium to regenerate after the virus is cleared.
The major roles of this position include ordering, mouse colony management and basic tissue culture tasks. Minor tasks include making lab stocks, maintaining inventory and lab safety management. Organizational skills and the ability to maintain thorough laboratory records are required. Additionally, there will be opportunities to learn influenza-virus based assays and to take on independent projects as they develop.
This position is initially for one year, and then extendable based upon performance. Preference will be given to applicants who are looking to remain in the position for at least two years. Recent bachelors or masters graduates (or people about to graduate) with interest in this topic are encouraged to apply. We value diversity of backgrounds and experience, so if you aren’t an expert in all of the techniques we use but have the desire and ability to successfully learn them, that’s just fine! Our lab is a training environment; we are primarily interested in recruiting people who love science and are willing to put in the work to achieve their goals.
