As a non-sworn member of the Garner Police Department, the Services Officers are responsible for patrolling and securing Town of Garner parks, responding to disabled vehicles and other traffic control issues, and responding to animal control calls-for-service.

 Examples of Duties:
The Services Officers will proactively patrol the Town's parks, will respond to dispatched calls-for-service involving traffic control assistance and animal control issues, and will assist both the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department and the Public Works Department with after-hours issues.
The Services Officer program includes, but is not limited to:
  • Responding to and investigating animal control calls for service and incidents, including animal cruelty; enforcing animal control laws; transporting animals as required;
  • Patrolling Town parks to provide a visible authority presence and a deterrent to violations of Town ordinances and North Carolina General Statute; enforcing park rules and Town ordinances;
  • Ensuring Town parks and structures inside Town parks are secured at posted closing times;
  • Responding to disabled vehicles and complaints of parking violations;
  • Responding to provide traffic direction;
  • Preparing and maintaining appropriate records and files;

 Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Applicants must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
Applicants must have a valid North Carolina driver's license and good driving record.

 Additional Information:
The regular work schedule for this position is approximately fifteen (15) hours per week, working primarily evening and weekend hours, with some additional time required on occasion for staffing Town special events.
