Salary Grade:  GN08                       Recruitment Range:  $33,960 - $57,493 
This position is located at Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Pasquotank County, NC. Position performs full range journey level duties in the installation maintenance & repair of air, gas, oil, water and waste disposal systems. Must possess working knowledge of the methods of installation repair of commercial plumbing systems as well as safety precautions of the plumbing trade. Must also possess skills in the use of tools, material & equipment commonly used in the performance of this trade. Applicant should be familiar with buildings and life and safety codes. Must be able to cut and thread pipe utilizing motorized and mechanical tools. Must be able to solder copper pipe and utilize that standard tools and materials required for this procedure. Must be able to make material list for projects and submit to supervisor for review. Should possess knowledge and skills in working with commercial kitchen equipment. Must be able to make up lead joints and install various types of plastic pipe. Should have the knowledge and ability to replace stainless steel and porcelain plumbing fixtures in a correctional facility. Position requires the skills and abilities to use all hand and power tools associated with the plumbing trade. Position is subject to emergency call back. Position supervises male inmates engaged in semi-skilled work.  Applicants that have a high school diploma or GED and NC Plumbing License are desired.

  • Working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.
  • Working knowledge of the safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
  • Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in the performance of plumbing work.
  • Ability to assume responsibility of lead worker in the performance of plumbing repair and installation.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
