Description of Work

Senior Psychologist - Behavior Specialist
This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Broughton Hospital is currently recruiting a Senior Psychologist - Behavior Specialist.  The Senior Psychologist - Behavior Specialist provides a full array of psychological services, including but not limited to individual and group psychotherapy, psychological assessment, training, program development, and individualized treatment and behavioral planning. In addition, this position works with the positive behavioral shaping group at Broughton Hospital to assist in the development of specialized behavioral interventions and programming to address complex behavioral concerns in inpatient psychiatric setting (e.g., patients with severe and persistent mental illnesses, intellectual developmental disabilities, neurocognitive, and characterological disorders). 

This position will be assigned to the Adult Admission Services, where the psychologist will serve as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team as well as provide behavioral programming consultation across hospital service areas. The opportunity to serve as faculty in the APA-accredited internship program is available.  While flexibility in work hours is required, current regular work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Broughton Hospital operates 297 beds and is one of the three regional psychiatric hospitals with statutory responsibility for operating as part of the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF).  With the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, we provide help and support to North Carolinians, and their families, experiencing mental illness.  Our hospital serves the western thirty-seven (37) counties of North Carolina, as part of the state's system of care and treatment for persons with mental illness. 

Salary Grade GN17 ; Recruitment Range $65,373.00  - $117,589.00

Trainee Rate: $54,887

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

  • Experience with applied behavioral analysis.
  • Documented experience providing behavioral interventions/programming.
  • Experience conducting psychological assessments such as cognitive and/or personality assessments.
  • Experience providing a wide range of clinical treatment/interventions.

Management Prefers candidates with the following:
  • Experience with program development and positive systems development.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision to staff psychologists and trainees.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina under the provisions of the NC Psychology Practice Act (G.S. 90270) and two years of professional psychological experience, one of which must be postdoctoral. Refer to the law for specifics regarding experience requirements.

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
