BOX OFFICE SPECIALIST - CENTER AIDE III

The nationally accredited Town of Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is seeking an outgoing, adaptable, service-oriented Box Office Specialist/Center Aide III. The Box Office Specialist will assist patrons with information about upcoming events and ticket purchases for the Cary Arts Center, Page-Walker Arts and History Center, Herb Young Community Center, The Cary, and other events in the downtown area. The Box Office Specialist will provide excellent customer service ensuring that each patron is assisted in an efficient and friendly manner.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Specialist-Audience Development.
This is an on-going temporary/part-time position with typical shifts being scheduled during the day, evenings, and throughout the weekends. Works schedules will vary, between 10-20 hours per week, depending upon the volume of events each week.
- Typical Tasks
Answers telephone and greets the public in person providing information about ticketed and non-ticketed arts and Town events;
Provide Town information and materials to customers or redirects the customer to the appropriate staff;
Notifies patrons of cancelations, changes or updates;
Receives and when possible addresses and responds to citizen inquires, complaints, requests for services;
Process ticket exchanges and communicate with Box Office Manager about returns as necessary; notifies supervisor of needed supplies and facility issues;
Follows up with supervisor as needed;
Enforces Town of Cary policies and procedures;
Analyzing and preparing report information Assists with preparation of ticket sales reports, as needed;
Assists with contacting patrons and/or presenters regarding various event details;
Provides presenters with updates about ticket sales as needed;
Assists with various administrative projects such as mailers and season ticket renewals;
Assists in creating tickets through eTix and proofing for accuracy of information;
Assists with updating and maintaining a list and description of events ensuring that information is accurate and complete;
Assists with preparing weekly credit card reconciliation;
Assists with Consignment Ticket check-out and settlements;
Prepares Will Call ticket file for performances;
Proactively identifies center needs and initiates tasks;
Sells items through Point of Sale and performs basic accounting for money received through the cash register;
Processes accurate deposits within established deadlines; performs basic accounting for daily transactions;
Operates standard office equipment, including copy machine and computer; computer work may be extensive;
Provides routine information on departmental policies, procedures, services, and helps to enforce Town policies;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of computers and related software; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline; skill in the operation of common office equipment; general knowledge of cash collection procedures; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to communicate effectively; ability to deal with the public in a firm but tactful manner; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the center, division and department; ability to maintain filing systems.
- Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with at least two years experience working in retail or customer service.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
