As an Information Technology Intern, you will have the opportunity to be part of a OneCary team working with experienced staff to solve some information challenges and support technology initiatives.
Assignments will be in Town of Cary facilities. This position will be appealing to those interested in applying a well-rounded approach to information technology and innovation.
Work schedules can be adjusted to meet school demands but will not exceed 20 hours per week.
- Typical Tasks
Interviewing Town staff to understand technology requirements;
Examining raw data sources to determine what, if any cleanup needs to occur;
Work with user community and IT personnel to cleanse data;
Ensuring network hardware and software are functional and operating reliably using various network monitoring tools;
Assisting Service Desk with the following: call center and ticket assignment, software inventory, key codes, and media;
Engaging in all aspects of desktop deployment;
Troubleshooting network problems and checking equipment logs of network, performing cable testing;
Developing visualizations of data to aid decision makers;
Perform other job-related tasks as required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of desktop business applications, particularly MS Word and MS Excel; general knowledge of Town-wide business operations; general knowledge of business intelligence techniques and best practices; ability to anticipate and identify client needs to respond and provide better services with a goal of maximizing client satisfaction; ability to identify and implement changes in work processes that can be expected to produce measurable enhancements; ability to prioritize tasks, managing competing priorities, as to effectively manage time in order to meet deadlines; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with technical staff and other Town staff; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to interview users and translate needs to application solutions.
- Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Participants in this program MUST be currently at least a High School Junior OR be currently pursuing a degree/course credits in the Technology field (Computer Information Systems, Analytics Program or Information Technology Work Based Learning Program).
Requires attachment of transcript to your application or a list of information technology, computer science, data analytics or related classes that you have completed or are currently enrolled in.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
